Rick Joy received his B.Arch from CALA in 1990. Rick Joy: Desert Works, a visual tour of nine of his projects built in the upper Sonoran Desert, was published by Princeton Architectural Press in 2002. Joy has been a featured speaker for the Architectural League and the Smithsonian Institution's Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, which awarded him the top prize in their 2004 design competition. The title of his presentation is "Next Steps".
