David Johnson (CALA '86) : Cradle to Cradle as a Design Paradigm

CALA alum David Johnson, Director of William McDonough + Parners' West Coast Studio, is an accomplished designer who has demonstrated exceptional leadership during his 25-year career.  He has directed teams from concept design through client occupancy on an array of technically challenging and programmatically intricate projects in the U.S. and abroad.  Johnson's portfolio includes planning, interiors, sustainability consulting and architectural design for a range of large-scale international urban planning projects and commercial and insitutional buildings.  The firm's San Francisco studio is engaged in a number of design and consulting projects, including a long-range master plan for the growth of Norcal Waste Systems; University of California at Berkeley's Community Health Center Master Plan and new building for the School of Public Health; and Phase One of the UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay.  David was also responsible for leading the firm's consulting work to the City of San Francisco for the Treasure Island Sustainability Guidelines, the State of California, Department of Conservation Sustainability Principles, Shui on Land's Long Range Development Plan and Sustainability Strategies for Dalian Tiandi, and a far-reaching consultation to PG&E to assist them in defining their Sustainable Community Initiative.
